Quiet and customised: wardrobe sliding doors top wish list

10 June 2014

Modern wardrobe sliding doors have become one of the hottest trends in New Zealand households as homeowners take utilitarian design ideas into the bedroom.

Generation Homes’ internal storage supplier, Designer Homeware, has experienced growing demand for customised wardrobe sliding doors.

“As home footprints decrease in many parts of the country, people are looking for functional ways to save space,” says Designer Homeware’s National Sales Manager Luanne Bettelheim.

“Wardrobe sliding doors are commonly used in bedrooms and hallways because they are quiet and give homeowners’ full access to a cupboard or wardrobe without a door taking up excess space.”

Luanne says wardrobe sliding doors come in a range of finishings including paint, mirror or wallpaper ensuring there is a cost effective option for any budget.

“Mirrors continue to be a popular choice in small rooms because it provides the illusion of space but we have noticed increased demand for grooved doors, classic white finishes and combination sets,” she says.

“We screen printed a sample of wardrobe sliding doors at our recent home show in Tauranga and people were really impressed. It adds another dimension for creativity.”

Designer Homeware’s Whisper Smooth Sliding Doors are available in double, triple or quadset and panels can be customised to suit the style of any interior décor.

The doors are made with a slim line aluminium frame that is available in a variety of finishes and fitted with an anti-jump roller track system that glides smoothly every time.

Luanne says wardrobe sliding doors are made to measure but to a maximum height of 2540mm and 2480mm (W) for a double set, 3700mm (W) for a triple and 4930mm (W) for a quadset.

The functionality and appeal of customised design means wardrobe sliding doors have stepped outside of the bedroom to cover any space in the home from storage cupboards to laundries.

Generation Homes chief executive Kevin Atkinson says finding the right wardrobe solutions is an important part of the design process.

“All of our customers are given a personal login so they can go through their virtual design and review the storage options in their rooms,” he says. “With the click of a button they can indicate if they want to stay with the standard product supplied or learn about how much it would cost to upgrade to the next product range. This way there are no nasty surprises.”

Kevin says Designer Homeware offers Generation Homes’ customers many functional accessories such as fold-down ironing boards or a pop-up draw ironing board that can be easily incorporated into a walk-in wardrobe.

Wardrobe sliding doors are not standard in Generation Homes’ plans however customers are welcome to choose this as a variation.
