Step 9: Timber and doors

21 October 2020

At this step all internal doors are fitted and interior finishings completed. The painter moves in and preparation takes place ready for interior painting. On the exterior, the driveway, paths and terraces will be boxed and poured.

Step 9 is when many of your home’s interior elements start coming together. As you eagerly look on, Generation Homes’ team of talented local tradesmen will fit all of the internal doors and interior finishings.

Interior finishings refer to the interior exposed surfaces of a home, such as wood, plaster and brink, or applied materials such as paint and wallpaper. These items are used to improve the service and decorative qualities of your home. Some commonly used terms include:

  • Casing – This is primarily used around doors and windows covering the gap between the drywall and the door or window fame.
  • Baseboard – The baseboard works in harmony with casing to finish and tie a room together
  • Architrave – a form of trim used to accent the top of a doorway, window or opening.
  • Crown moulding – A moulding designed to sit at an angle between the wall and ceiling. It has many uses and can be integrated as part of the mantel on a fireplace.
  • Chair rail – Is a practical and decorative trim applied to a wall (approximately 24 to 72 inches up from the floor).
  • Panel mould – A variety of moulding profiles most often used to create or embellish panels on either flat or recessed surfaces.

At Generation Homes presentation is important to us, and we won’t hand over the keys until your home passes our strict quality assurance criteria, Code of Compliance and Master Build Guarantee with flying colours.

Speaking of colour, your painter also moves in during this step to begin the preparation work for the interior painting.

While the journey so far has been a whirlwind of activity, we encourage the continual flow of creative ideas by presenting new trends and design tips to our customers.

The concept of the ‘smart home’ has seen customised home automation become a must-have feature in any modern home. It’s popularity has surged due to our growing desires to build energy-efficient houses that have a low impact on our natural environment.

Hot international home automation trends include the use of Bluetooth to control lights, voice activated intercom systems to manage various household items, WIFI systems that monitor water usage, and smart thermostats which can be adjusted remotely by smart phones.

New technology is paving the way for increased flexibility, comfort and convenience in a home and our team of interior design experts can help you include the latest tech-features into your final design.
