Welcome to Northland

About the Region

Known as ‘the winterless north’ throughout the country Northland is renowned for its beautiful coastline, close relationship with the sea and the richness of its early colonial history.

Whangarei is nestled amongst naturally beautiful surrounds, and is Northland’s main city with a population of around 98,000. Northland has a diverse population of just over 166,000 and covers 13,940 square kilometres.

There are 149 schools in the Northland area, four hospitals and seven tertiary education institutions.

The Bay of Islands, Ninety Mile Beach and Cape Reinga are all major tourism drawcards where people from all over the globe can be found basking in the sunshine almost all year round.

The world’s largest kauri tree Tane Mahuta, situated in the Waipoua forest is also a popular stopping point for many tourists and an emblem of spirituality for the Maori people of New Zealand.

Waitangi is famed as the historic setting where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between Maori and European settlers in 1840 – effectively creating modern day New Zealand.

Northland’s great beauty and thriving economy will ensure the Northland Generation Homes team stays busy helping new customers into quality homes for many years to come.

Our Northland Regional Partner – David Skudder

David came to Generation Homes from a solid background in the building industry, and sought us out after deciding to down his own tools and get into business management.

He describes the joint venture as the best thing he came across in his search for a new business.

“It was the concept of shared responsibility that really did it for me. It’s a good philosophy, based on sound ethics. It just felt really good,” he explains.

He has overseen major developments in Whangarei and the stunning coastline of Ruakaka. With those solid achievements under his belt he is spreading the ever-expanding circle of extremely satisfied Generation Homes customers further north into the sun drenched Bay of Islands and constantly growing Paihia areas.

David knows the region intimately, has a vast range of networks and is a solid community man – which makes us proud to call him the leader of the Generation Homes Northland team.
