A speedy timeframe for young family

Anu Jose and Vipin Johnson built their dream home in Rototuna Village in Hamilton in 2021.

For their family of four, including their two children Avril, aged 6, and Roman, ten months, they chose the Parton architectural design for a four-bedroom home with a double garage.

The couple also incorporated many of the features of the Kainui architectural design with an open plan family living and dining area and a partial dividing wall as they loved the plan of the Generation Homes show home in Cambridge when they visited it.

Their master bedroom has an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe and they opted for tiled showers in their bathrooms.

Rototuna Village is close to the Hamilton CBD and has easy access to the Waikato expressway.

There are excellent primary and secondary schools serving this new community on the north side of the city.

A new library is being built and the village could feature a swimming pool in the future. Work on the village’s public spaces is underway including cycle and walkways, a village square and plenty of parking.

Anu and Vipin share their experience of building with Generation Homes:

The main attraction for us was the timeframe. Generation Homes offered to finish the project in four to five months, and they kept their word.

Why did you decide to build a house instead of buying an existing property?

ANU

We chose to build a house because our rental was a new built one where we could feel the difference between living in a newly built home and an older existing home and we would not step backwards into an older place.

Our rented property was a townhouse, but we chose to upgrade to a stand-alone home when we built our place.

How did you choose Generation Homes to build your home?

ANU

We contacted Generation Homes regarding a property in Dixon Road. That property had sold, and Sales Consultant Stacey Spall introduced Rototuna Village to us.

Why did you choose Generation Homes to build your home?

ANU

The main attraction for us was the timeframe. Generation Homes offered to finish the project in four to five months, and they kept their word. It was very much appreciated. Well done to the team.

Also, the way Stacey explained the steps in the journey towards our own home and answered all our questions was so impressive. We felt very supported.

What was the process like working with Generation Homes?

ANU

We were very comfortable in all the stages of our build. The whole team was very supportive, especially Stacey. She helped us to choose the design things, she gave lots of advice, and she replied promptly to our queries.

How do you describe your experience working with Generation Homes?

ANU

We had really good experience with the Generation Team, and we highly recommend Generation Homes.

Tell us a bit about the house you chose and any modifications you made.

ANU

Our house is simply beautiful. We did some modifications like adding in a tiled floor in the living area and a deck because we saw that in the show home and liked it. That really helped to enhance the beauty of our home.

The other modifications we made were a separation wall, upgraded tapware and kitchen bench, a scullery, a centralised heating system, an extension to the house area, landscaping, and natural gas for water.

We carpeted the garage, tiled our showers, and made changes to the laundry area as well as upgrading the wardrobes.

What are some of your favourite features in your home?

ANU

Every room is a favourite to us, but we love the dividing wall, the kitchen, the tiled floor in the whole living area, the bathroom and the fencing.

What attracted you to the location of your new home?

ANU

New subdivisions are always good to move into and also it was near to many amenities like schools and supermarkets.

What budget tips do you have for those building for the first time?

ANU

We believe that there has been a huge hike in house prices since we built. The tip we can give is to try to make any upgrades you might like during the building process rather than doing it later.

Have you made any changes or additions since moving in?

ANU

Nothing much. We painted our fence!
